Welcome to Maru-a Pula School (MaP) – an extraordinary school rooted in Botswana! The name “Maru-a-Pula” means “clouds of rain” or “promises of blessings” in Setswana.

MaP is a co-educational, independent day and boarding secondary school. Founded in 1972, MaP was established as a non-profit trust, built on 50 acres of land donated by the Botswana Government. The founding Head, Deane Yates, launched the school based on multiracial ideals, with community outreach as a core principle. The school aims to nurture students who are deeply committed to helping their communities, both locally and globally.

MaP offers an exceptional education to boys and girls from Botswana as well as other countries. Our diverse community consists of over 800 students (two-thirds are Botswana citizens) and around 65 teachers, representing more than 35-40 different nationalities..

We are dedicated to providing our community a first-class education, with an emphasis on academic success, service learning, wellbeing, and a holistic and inclusive approach to education.

Academically, we are proud to be one of Africa’s leading schools, with 64 of our MaP graduates currently studying at the world’s top 100 ranked universities. We offer rigorous preparation for the Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A-Level examinations, preparing students for entry to leading universities worldwide. MaP students have received the Cambridge “Top in the World” awards for their outstanding performance in IGCSE and A-Level exams.

Our Service programme is neither optional nor occasional. Since the school was founded, service has been required of all students and full-time teaching staff each week. Our commitment to playing an active role in the development of the nation of Botswana, and in our personal development, is demonstrated by our nearly 50 years of serving our communities.

School Teaching Service

We are an inclusive school and believe that opportunities should be available to all. We offer financial aid to eligible students who would not otherwise be able to attend the school. Additionally, MaP awards full scholarships to orphans & vulnerable children, including refugees, and has students that are funded through our strong partnerships in the public and private sector.

We believe that this inclusive approach to education allows our community an environment to learn, grow and develop as human beings, promoting intercultural understanding and respect for all. We are supported and nurtured in this approach by our many partnerships and exchanges, as well as the work we do with our many donors and supporters here in Botswana and across the globe.
