Debswana Scholars

Debswana is a joint venture between the Government of Botswana and De Beers that specialises in the Diamond industry. Major finds were first made in 1967, only a year after Botswana gained independence, and the country is now home to two of the biggest diamond mines in the world.

In late 2014 Debswana approached Maru-a-Pula about the possibility of sponsoring top Batswana students to do their A-Levels at MaP, leading to the introduction of the Debswana Scholar scheme.

Debswana Scholars undergo a rigorous selection process that includes interviews and psychometric testing and are picked with an eye to the future needs of Desbwana. After A-Levels students are sponsored to attend a Russel Group university in the UK and then are guaranteed a job at Debswana for at least three years upon their return.
