MARU-A-PULA’S ORPHAN & VULNERABLE CHILDREN (OVC) SCHOLARSHIPS
THE NEED

Botswana has been significantly impacted by HIV/AIDS, and with poverty rates that disproportionately affect children. As a school where service is fundamental to our identity and whose central purpose is to serve the nation of Botswana, Maru-a-Pula is committed to tackling this national problem by providing opportunities for disadvantaged children.
Botswana’s greatness as a nation – indeed Maru-a-Pula’s greatness as a school – will be measured by the opportunities it provides to the most vulnerable.
We need leaders whose voices are informed by both a rigorous education and tempered by personal experience. We believe that students who have endured the most profound hardships will emerge as the most passionate advocates of change.
THE IMPACT
At Maru-a-Pula, orphans and vulnerable children receive a world-class education. MaP offers rigorous preparation for the Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A-Level examinations, preparing students for entry to highly selective universities worldwide. We are delighted to be one of Africa’s leading institutions with 94 students currently studying at the world’s top 100 ranked universities.
Recipients of our OVC Scholarships have gone on to study at schools such as MIT, Princeton, Stanford, UPenn and many others. Professionally, our Scholars have gone into fields such as medicine and engineering, with the core principle of service firmly instilled in them. Tshiamo Lechina ’07, who returned to Botswana in 2013 after graduating from MIT, has spent the last few years working on a project to supply remote areas in the country with clean drinking water.
YOUR ROLE
You can help Maru-a-Pula to continue making a difference in the lives of orphans and vulnerable children from across Botswana. Our OVC scholarships cover everything from Tuition and Boarding to Medical expenses and toiletries.
Maru-a-Pula’s 2019 annual fees are P86,400 ($8,095) for tuition and P65,100 ($6,100) for boarding. This is well below the cost of similar quality schools in the southern Africa region. Each gift made to the Orphan and Vulnerable Children’s Scholarship Fund supports the needs of Maru-a-Pula’s orphan scholars.
