We welcome applications from current Maru-a-Pula students as well as students from other local and international schools who are completing IGCSE, BGCSE or another equivalent qualification.
About the A-Level Programme
Maru-a-Pula offers a two-year A-Level programme beginning with AS Level and progressing to A2 Level. Students select their subjects from the school’s subject blocks, subject to availability and the relevant entry requirements.
Before applying, students and parents are strongly encouraged to read the A-Level Course Guide, which provides information about the subjects offered, course content and subject-specific entry requirements. Attending the A-Level Open Evening on Thursday 17 September at 5:30 PM will also give students the insight they need to make informed decisions as they apply.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the A-Level programme is competitive and is based primarily on an applicant’s performance at IGCSE, BGCSE or an equivalent level.
Applicants must also meet the entry requirements for the individual A-Level subjects they wish to study. Admission may additionally consider the applicant’s school record, entrance assessments and/or interviews where applicable, the availability of places, and whether the requested subject combination can be accommodated.
Any offer made before the release of final exam results is conditional and may be subject to the applicant achieving the required final grades. This does not apply to BGCSE applicants who apply to start in January.
Internal Applicants (Current MaP Students)
Current MaP students will complete a separate online application form where they will indicate their preferred A-Level subjects. Applications will be considered based on the student’s academic performance, suitability for the selected subjects, and the relevant subject-specific entry requirements.
External Applicants
Applicants from other schools are required to complete the online application form below and submit the requested supporting documents, including their most recent school reports and/or examination results. As part of the admissions process, shortlisted applicants will also be required to sit entrance assessments and/or attend an interview.
Admission for both internal and external applicants is subject to meeting the relevant academic requirements, the availability of places, and the school’s ability to accommodate the requested subject combination.
The A-Level Programme
The globally-recognized Cambridge Advanced Level qualifications have a two-part syllabus: the AS-Level syllabus, covered in a year-long course; part two of the syllabus, or ‘A2’, covered in a second, year-long course.
This flexible approach enables students to choose between three main options:
• Take all A-Level components in the same examination at the end of a two-year course of study
• Take all A-Level in two parts: the AS qualification in the first year, and the A2 in the second
• Take the AS-Level qualification only, at the end of the one-year course
Maru-a-Pula School recognizes that some students wish to pursue a one-year post-IGCSE course of studies. The AS-Level stands alone as a qualification for entry to university. The normal route is to study four subjects at AS-Level and then drop down to three at A2-Level, although some students continue with their fourth subject. Three is usually the minimum number of A2-Levels required for university, with some universities specifying the need for a fourth A-Level subject.
Subject choices depend on the student’s intentions at the tertiary level. The departments currently offering AS-Level / A2-Level studies are: Accounting, English Language, English Literature, Geography, Computing, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Art & Design, History, Economics and Business Studies.

What Happens After You Apply?
Once an application has been received, it will be reviewed by the school. Applicants who meet the initial requirements will be contacted regarding the next stage of the admissions process, which may include entrance assessments and/or an interview.
Successful applicants may receive a provisional offer, with final admission confirmed once all required academic results and documentation have been received.
Boarding and Financial Assistance
Applicants who require boarding accommodation should indicate this on the application form.
A limited number of scholarships may be available to students who demonstrate strong academic potential and significant financial need. Further information on financial assistance can be obtained from the school.
