Eco-Warriors

The EcoWarriors- Environmental Strategy Group

The Maru-a-Pula EcoWarriors are a team of students advised by Lucy Dixon-Clarke and John Wilson devoted to making the school more environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and sustainable. The team is divided into three different groups which all focus on a different aspect of improving the school’s energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. The first group is assessing the school’s energy and water use. They are responsible for finding ways the school can prevent the excessive use of natural resource. The second group of students examines the school’s use of greenspace. This group will develop recommendations to the school on how to maximize the utility of the school’s land. The third group examines the patterns of transportation used by the day students of the school. By assessing how students are picked up and dropped off at Maru-a-Pula, they hope to find a more energy efficient way of organizing lifts. Potential solutions include a lift club or a school bus system. By doing an internal environmental assessment, the students are educating themselves and their classmates about energy efficiency and sustainability issues while furthering MaP’s commitment to being a leader to in environmental efforts in Southern Africa.
